Scotiabank donates $200,000 to the CIRCUIT program

The Sainte-Justine University Hospital Centre Foundation is proud to announce Scotiabank’s generous contribution of $200,000 toward the CIRCUIT program, a centre where children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 who are at risk of cardiovascular disease, along with their families, can receive personalized interventions.

CIRCUIT: Preventing the risks of cardiovascular disease in childhood
Youths at risk of developing cardiovascular disease represent a significant portion of the population, making up nearly a third of young people in Quebec. In an effort to curb this trend, CIRCUIT directs children and adolescents to educational resources and sports facilities in their neighbourhoods and helps optimize their level of physical activity and health by instilling healthy lifestyle habits.

CIRCUIT: Opening its doors
Launched at the official opening of the Centre for Health Promotion in March 2010, CIRCUIT initially worked solely with children referred by the Clinical Genetics Services and General Pediatrics at the Sainte-Justine UHC. Now with its teams fully assembled, a well-established intervention process, and the arrival of a second kinesiologist, CIRCUIT is ready to welcome families referred through external clinics as well.

The first of its kind in Canada, CIRCUIT is at the heart of Sainte-Justine’s vision: Shaping a Quebec where children, adolescents and mothers enjoy a world-class level of health care.

Scotiabank joins the Forzani Group Foundation, the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Program in Quebec, the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation, Metro, Sun Life Financial, la Fondation Desjardins-Moreau, Midtown, Le Sporting Club Sanctuaire, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Quebec and l’Omnuim Guillaume Latendresse as significant donors to the CIRCUIT program. Their generosity is a vital component in helping us encourage optimum health for our children.
