Two days after the terrible diagnosis, Jérémi’s heart stopped beating. Saved just in time, he was rushed to Sainte-Justine’s emergency ward. They decided to give him a mechanical heart called a Berlin Heart. This external heart/lung machine would allow Jérémi to get strong and continue living an almost normal life while he waited for a heart transplant. On December 3, 2008, they did a successful transplant, thanks to the generosity of an unknown family that was also going through a tough time.
Today, Jérémi is full of life thanks to the expertise at Sainte-Justine. I want to underline the exceptional work of the doctors, nurses and other professionals who accompanied us throughout that very difficult time. They eased our anxiety and apprehension by giving us daily reports on our son’s health. We felt we were part of a dedicated team effort to save Jérémi.
