In 2002, as part of its ongoing improvement of care, Sainte-Justine UHC developed a major modernization and expansion project. The goal of “Growing Up Healthy” was to offer patients, families and staff a warm hospital setting and an efficient work environment.
The first step in this major undertaking was the construction of the Lucie and André Chagnon Building, which will allow Sainte-Justine to double the capacity of its oncology centre. To be added by 2014 are new specialized care units with private rooms, technical support centres, and an ultra-modern operating room. Also in the works are a new high-tech research centre, along with classrooms and auditoriums for teaching purposes.
A telehealth and telemedicine network is already being unrolled to extend Sainte-Justine’s expertise to as many children, families and physicians in Québec as possible.
“Draw Me Your Dream Bedroom”
The “Draw Me Your Dream Bedroom” contest, launched in 2008 as part of the Growing Up Healthy campaign, gave children an opportunity to express themselves. Some 340 young patients submitted stories and drawings, showing what their ideal hospital room would look like.
Their work will provide plenty of ideas for creating a pleasant care environment.
Here are a few examples of their work:
